Tri

Matt competed in the Lake Wylie Triathlon this morning and got 3rd place in his age group. It was a very hard course, but he did great!!

More photos on our picture site soon!

Big News

Most of you have probably heard, but Matt got a job last week. It really is a great job opportunity - he will be teaching at a high school 10-15 minutes from our house. His schedule is excellent - 2 AP Calculus AB classes, 1 AP Calculus BC, and 2 Honors Pre-calculus. He is quite excited and I am working on getting used to the idea.

So...what to do with the little man. We decided that at this stage day care would make the most sense. Matt did a lot of the leg work, and I visited the top runners. We have picked a day care, and I feel as comfortable as I can be. I know that he will be perfectly fine - it is me I worry about. : )

Carter Stats

Last week Carter had his 4 month doctors appointment. He weighed 14lbs 15 oz which is the 50th%. Also, his length was 50th% and head circumference 80th%. He also got shots, but did great!

Four Months

Here are some factoids about our little buddy:

- This morning he rolled from his stomach to back twice!
- He is a lot more aware of the world around him. He pays more attending to little sounds and movements and has started interacting with the dogs some.
- He gives lots of smiles and giggles sometimes when he is in a really good mood.
- His routine is pretty set and also includes a 4:00am feeding thanks to mom's crazy schedule.
- He is still 100% breastmilk fed which makes him mommy very happy.
- He weighs about 16 pounds. His 4 month check up is on Tuesday, so we will have more stats then.
- At night, he wiggles all around his crib.
- He scoots around on his tummy. The other day Matt said that he made about 2.5 feet of forward progress. Somehow I have a feeling that he will be crawling early which is a bit scary.
- When he is on his tummy he can push up on his arms some.
- He loves when we read stories to him. He really seems to be looking at the pictures. His favorite book so far is The Cat in the Hat.

Lots of Love,

Day Off

Today I had the day off before I start a stretch of 8 days on working 12-14 hours/day - YIKES! Here are the highlights from our day:

- Carter woke up after a great 10+ hours of sleep. We are on day three of a minor cold. Last night we used his humidifier for the first time, and I think this really helped.
- Around 9:30 we got a call that the air conditioning at our Augusta house is broken. What wonderful news! NOT! We are working on getting this fixed. I feel bad for us that we have to pay, but I also feel REALLY bad for the family living there. The mom and newborn apparently went to Atlanta to stay with someone.
- A walk! Carter had his first walk without his infant carrier on top of the stroller. He loved it so much that he was asleep almost the whole time. A picture of him at the start of the walk is above.
- Cleaning and laundry.
- Carter had a nice long 4 hour nap!
- Now Matt is on a group bike ride.

So, I will be back in 8 days....

Fourth at the Pool

Today our neighborhood had a pool party all day to celebrate the Fourth of July. There were TONS of people there and a live band which meant lots of drunken moms dancing - very entertaining. From a combination of colder temperatures, rain, and maybe some fresh water in the pool, the pool was pretty chilly the past two days, so Carter has not enjoyed it quite as much. However, he still likes hanging out around the pool after a brief dip in the water. Tomorrow we are going to hangout at the U.S. National Whitewater Center and watch fireworks.

More pictures on our shutterfly website!

Riley

Maggie and Riley both have been enjoying the carpet in our house. Also, they love laying at the top of the steps on the landing and watching out the big window at the front of the house. Here is Riley at the top of the stairs.

Also, Happy Birthday to Riley!!! He celebrated his 5th on the first (but we just remembered today, oops)!

My Froggy

Even before I thought about becoming pregnant I was excited to have this froggy towel someday. Isn't he so cute! Thanks Megan Gilbert for the towel!!!

Survived

I survived my first day (actually night) of residency! Although I worked 5:30pm - 7:30am, the night went by quite quickly and I had a great time! I have a ton to learn, but the nurses, residents, and attending were wonderful and very helpful. Never again will I have to have another first day of residency! So, now we have a 3 day weekend ahead!!!!

Happy Fourth of July to everyone!

Guest Bath and Guest Room

Note the poor frog on his head. I'm not exactly sure if the electrician was sober when he wired our house - many oddities. One of those being, all of the outlets are upside down. However, in one of our buildings at the hospital I noted that the outlets were all upside down too - maybe a NC thing? Thankfully, dad flipped this one over so the frog would be more comfortable. And, thanks Sparks family for the nightlight!
